The morning sun

What have we been up to lately then? Well we’ve played some gigs – including the Lemmy bar in Exeter on Monday and a nice acoustic session at the Prince of Wales last night (thanks to Marco) and last month we were honoured to support the fantastic Haunted Stereo for their single launch in Southampton. We’ve got lots of things happening behind the scenes at the moment – artwork / mastering for the new record, songwriting and lots of rehearsing! We know the record has taken a little longer than planned, but we think it’s been worth it, and are hugely grateful to all the wonderful people involved so far. Bear with us, it’s almost there.

So, we’ve got a really cool gig for you this Sunday – Communion records (who have the wonderful Pete Roe on their roster) have a regular night at Mr Wolfs and we’ll be playing at 10pm.

Check out the facebook page here – hope to see you there

For this special event, Drawn Recordings are hooking up with the A Future Without label, two groups of Bristol-based musicians and artists who have been talking about collaborating for months now. Well, here it is, all the Drawn goodies you’ve come to expect, such as live visuals, the drawing wall, free stuff and more, with some of the most exciting A Future Without acts:

The Lasting Days

Epic nu-folk, post-rock, combining gorgeous melodies with driving beats. Described by Venue magazine as “One to watch,” be sure to check out this young and talented group on the rise.

Zhou

Combining deep atmospherics, 2-step beats and throbbing sub basslines, prepare to be taken into the dark urban landscape of Zhou. Sounding like a cross between Burial and Murcof, we’re proud to welcome this minimal dubstep duo to the Drawn live stage.

Memotone

Based in Salisbury, the ley lines have clearly had a positive effect on this multi-instrumentalist. Finely crafted electronic folk, with layers of dark soundscapes, melodies and MPC-style beats.http://www.myspace.com/williamyatesmusic

Awesome live visuals by Drawn resident, Lumen throughout:http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lumen/87996522458

January Blues?

We’ve had a pretty busy January! We played our first gig of the year in Southampton and wow, Hampton’s is such a nice venue – thanks for everyone that came and especial thanks to Haunted Stereo for inviting us down. We had an amazing drive home in the middle of the night (in our new band van!), bright stars and deer everywhere along the country road we took.

In mid-January we played an acoustic gig at a lovely bristol pub called the Lansdown – we don’t often play acoustic so it was a real treat to play in such an intimate setting and to play some of the softer songs that don’t always make it into the band set, here’s a video from the set of ‘Perry riot blues’ a song that we haven’t played as a full band for some time now, this is a new arrangement… (if you’re wondering, Huw was sat playing electric guitar just out of shot)

Last week we headlined Bristol Uni’s RAGFEST, it was a great night and raised lots of cash. There were some very talented photographers who have kindly let us put up some of their photos – have a look and check out their Flickr pages. Thanks to Will, Rajitha and Dave.

The final thing to happen in January was that BBC Bristol Introducing played our track ‘Somebody unlike you’ on their weekend show – it’s on iPlayer for a little while longer – there’s lots of other great Bristol music but we’re about 37 minutes in.
